Our Projects
The In this Place campaign takes inspiration from the hymn commissioned by Roger Muttitt for the 600th anniversary of Durham School in 2014 by OD Composer Will Todd.
"In this place I have been made new;
I have been gifted jewels beyond price.
In this place greater dreams are given.
I am made everlasting."
In this place, at this time, we are asking ODs, parents and others to come together and support their school for current and future generations. Thank you for your support, which will directed to where the need is greatest within the campaign.
Bursaries
Bursaries open doors for young people to access lifechanging education at Durham School and Chorister School. Ever since our founding we have taken pupils with the means to pay fees, and some who do not but whose academic or other aptitudes bring a great deal to the life of the school.
Today, means tested bursaries support 1 in 7 of our pupils (25%-100%). Read More
Thanks to a generous donation by a friend of the School we are able to match the first £20,000 of gifts towards bursaries through the telephone campaign, doubling the difference your gift will make.
Rowing
Rowing is the Oldest Sport at Durham School and the Chorister School with rowers from Durham School competing in races as early as 1834.
The school funds an experienced team of coaches and maintains the schools stable of boats but to progress the Boat Club has, working alongside PODS and the Foundation, developed a five year plan for investing in rowing. Starting in Summer 2023 with the focus on raising £233,000 towards improving boats over the next five years.
Pavilion
The Playground Pavilion, heavily delayed because of COVID, is the future home of sport at Durham School.
This project will see the creation of a two-tier pavilion in the shell of the old sanatorium/admin centre. Focused around pupils it will host the PE office, physio room, disable changing facilities and meeting rooms on the ground floor.
